So. I’m pleased to announce that I’ve (finally) posted the short story that’s the prelude to the third book in the Sucks to Be Me series. (Read it now! Read it now! … not so subliminal suggestion…)

The short story features a new character, Astrid, who is based on the real-life Astrid Villareal who won the contest to appear in a short story with Mina.
Sucks to Be Moi: More All-True Confessions of Mina Hamilton Smith, teen vampire (Prelude)
The short story actually turned into a prelude for the third book. And here’s the plan…as you might have read, the publisher of the first two books is no longer publishing the series because they’re going back to just D&D. I’m working on other books (like Cat Girl’s Day Off), but I would like to finish Mina’s story (and many of you write me every week asking about it). So…I’m planning on releasing the third book in installments in eBook format (kindle, smashwords, etc.) myself at reasonable prices (Yikes. Words I never thought I would say, but hey, the market is changing).
Of course, this only works if people actually buy it. This prelude story is absolutely free and gives you a taste of what the third book will hold. If you like it, please share it and please let me know. I don’t yet have a date for the first installment of the third book (I’m thinking I’ll probably release it in three or four chunks, each chunk having some type of resolution so you’re not left completely hanging). I’ll be completely transparent and honest here. If no one reads this story (and there’s no feedback or ratings for it indicating people actually like it), I have no reason to go on to write the rest of the book and I’ll just concentrate on writing the other books I have in progress.
So if you want to see more of Mina, it really and truly is up to you.

Although I feel bad for astrid, getting kidnapped by some freaky talon dude (any plans for Astrid to get vamped lol) anyways, a few spelling errors dont hinder this opening at all, i swear i think i broke my Ipad trying to hit the right arrow button telling myself “( insane creepy voice) there has to be more, there cant just be eleven pages… WHERE THE F*** IS MY SUCKS TO BE ME BOOK?!!!” lol… I demand more!!!

LOL, I know THAT, it’s just I’m surprised it took one month to write eleven pages, it usually takes me about 2 week to do that and maybe 3 days to get my friends and parents to look at it, I was just expecting something a little longer after 1 month… sorry if that bothers you

Page 4: Oh. Yeah. That made sense. George and Dad were going to Paris to actually, you know, work. Mom and I were along for the ride. Uncle Mortie had decided to tag along because he’d always want (Mistake here –>)*ed*(<– Mistake here) to go to France (and it gave him a free place to stay, since we were going to be living with Dr. Musty in some chalet or something he owned there). Also, Uncle Mortie had a thing for French women.
I think I saw more but that's the only one I could find a second time, probably because it's the most obvious, if I see anymore, I'll let you know
Btw, I E-mailed you many times about the T-shirt, I know theres a lt of rioting going on where you are but I think you might have just forgotten about it, seeing as how the e-mails where never answered
Oh, I wrote it in a week. But I was waiting to hear back from some fellow writers with feedback (and it also took a bit of time to gather the information from Astrid, so I didn’t start writing it right away).

I soo wanted to enter the contest, but just didn’t think an old 58 yr old would make an appropriate character…Boo Hoo. How ever did Max decide who would be the new addition to the life of Mina? Nosy ole broad, that’s me!
Please continue…are you going to base it on the number of emails? Cuz I can park myself @ a library or bookstore & gang up on YA’s & friendly looking grown ups and “encourage” (evil laugh) more emails if that’s what it takes! Mina’s story is a crossover to me, YAs and adults who just like the genre with a fresh approach. Seems to be oodles of vampire school series and that’s what makes Mina’s story different as a teen vamp.
You have a great story line, awesome new friend, perfect exotic location and scary evil nemesis… you gotta good forward (Please, I have the crackers just send some wine to go with the begging lol).

I downloaded the short story… will put it on my Kindle today… but, since we’re being completely honest here, it may take me the rest of this year to get it to the top of my TBR. Yes, I DO have that many books stacked up to read for review – over 20 of them at last count. At my current rate of speed that’s about 4 to 5 months of reading. Most are either paperback or hardcover, so it is a true Mt. TBR thing going on in my bedroom.
I won’t forget though, and I’ll probably also buy each serial installment as released, but I am a procrastinator. My actual reading of said installments may wait until they’ve all been made available. I hate waiting when I’ve gotten wrapped up in a story.

Hi! Well, it’s going to come out in chunks, not all at once (since that’s the only way I can do it). Once 500 people have read the short story, I’m going to get started on the next chunk.
And don’t worry, Mina’s first order of business is going to be to do something about Astrid’s kidnapping!

Hi there i am really interested in hearing this 3rd book, BUT Unfortunately i have a medical condition that makes it extremely difficult to read books which is why i have book 1&2 in Audiobook format. since this will not be a published book there is no way even the NLS will make a recording of it. so MY QUESTION IS.
Do you think you can do like a few PodCast Readings of the new book that you can sell as well on Itunes, etc?? i have found many non published good audiobooks that way, plus it will be an extra revenue stream for the book. otherwise im out of luck unless i can find someone willing to read it to me which is next to impossible.

I LOVE these books! Every time I go to Barnes & Noble I look for the next one! Now I find out no one will probably publish another one, this really bites. I will support you as much as I can!!!!! I love reading vampire books and I don’t care if the vampire ‘craze’ has died. Vampires make me happy. This series puts a different view into vampire life that is very intriguing. It makes vampires seem more like me and you which is why I think I like it so much. I recently went to Paris so it will be interesting to see the things you talk about that I saw! I am anxiously awaiting the next chunk!
By the way, I love your covers! The cover of the first book is what drew me to read it. I think they just keep getting better and better!
