In which there is a giveaway…

Contest Time! So. If you missed the announcement, the ebook versions (Kindle, iTunes, GooglePlay, etc.) of Cat Girl’s Day Off are on sale for $1.99 for just 2 weeks (until October 22nd). Limited time only, yo.

Let me tell you a few things about this book before you page down and find out how to enter the contest (I’m tricky, me).

This book is near and dear to my heart because the main character, Nat, is half-Chinese. Like me. One of her best friends is also half-Asian and is also gay (and is totally fabulous, just like the two friends of mine I based him on). The cover features what some people call a POC (Person of Color)…in other words, someone who actually looks like the half-Chinese person they are. It’s a genre novel (i.e. sci-fi/fantasy). It’s funny. It’s often silly. It has talking cats.

As someone who grew up voraciously reading books where all the characters were, basically, white people, I can’t even tell you how much I would have loved this book when I was a teen. I wanted to read about people like me. I wrote this book for me. Okay, actually, I wrote this book for the teens of today who are like the me-that-was-then. And I was really happy when Stacy Whitman of Tu Books (part of Lee & Low) wanted to publish it because their mission is to promote multicultural literature.

In short, I really believe that multicultural books are very important, especially in our very international world. Don’t just read Cat Girl’s Day Off, read Malinda Lo and Cyndi Pon and Justina Chen and all the other Tu books authors and…and I could go on forever, so I’m going to stop there. You get the idea.

Cat Girl’s Day Off didn’t get into many bookstores. That’s not a commentary on the book itself (which even got a good review from Kirkus!) but on the state of the economy and what not. Things I can’t do much about, especially living now in the UK. The support from librarians and bloggers was great but, quite frankly, not enough people have heard of my funny little book. $1.99 sales like this can make a big difference and I thank you SO MUCH if you go out and buy the book during the sale and help push up the book’s rankings.

And now…THE CONTEST!

Enter to win a Cat Girl’s Day Off t-shirt or phone cover of your choice (heck, I’ll even design you a new one if you want). You can get one entry for each one of these things:

  • Buying the book in whatever form you prefer (you can email me a copy of your receipt)
  • Blogging about the sale (email me the link)

  • Reviewing the book (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, etc.)

E-mail your entries to me at kim at kimberlypauley dot com (you know the drill, replace the “at” with @ and the “dot” with .) by the end of October 2013. I will pick a winner randomly from all entries received.

Good luck and THANK YOU.

  1. Kim what if you don’t have a blog. I twitter it, Facebook it and had the book since the first week it came out but not the receipt.

    • Hi Shelley! You’ll get an entry each for Facebook and Twitter and I know you have the book, so I’ll count that too :-) So that’ll be three entries. Just remember to email me so I can keep it in my contest entries folder!
