Book Launch Party: Day 15: Kathryn Erskine

All About Kathryn
My guest today is the talented Kathryn Erskine, an author you might not have heard of (yet) but should have. She was born in the Netherlands and has lived in a wide variety of places (like Israel and South Africa and Scotland), but now calls Virginia home. Her books are Ibhubesi: The Lion (inspired by her time in South Africa) and Quaking (a powerful book with very real characters).

You can learn more about Kathryn at her official website.

All About Quaking
After years of being batted around, fourteen year old Matt has learned to rely on herself at school and everywhere.  “Biology is good.   I am an expert.   We are studying morphing, but I have already morphed.  I have my own exoskeleton.  . . I have spent years developing my armor and I will not let it be pierced.”  She must call on all of her resources to handle Mr. Warhead, the Rat, and the Wall at her new school, not to mention the Beast in her head.  But somehow it is even more difficult to cope with the warm Quaker family, her “last chance,” who has taken her in.  Why does Jessica insist on acting like a mom, for God’s sake?  Why can’t their little boy with his gack covered fingers just leave her alone?  And why does Sam have to care about her–and everything–so much?  Doesn’t he realize that only gets you hurt?  And even though Matt knows that pain very well, why is she finally letting down her armor and allowing herself to care?

The Q&A

Here’s my question for Kathryn…

You’ve lived all over (and I adore Scotland, by the way, some of the nicest people anywhere)…is there any *when* you wish you could have lived?

And her answer…

The Middle Ages in Britain.  I love that period of history and the books about that era:  CATHERINE CALLED BIRDY, CRISPIN, THE MIDWIFE’S APPRENTICE.  I’d make myself start on a farm in itchy clothes, eating moldy potatoes but then end up in a castle, maybe in the kitchen because I like to cook, or as the lady of the manor, as long as I were free to walk the halls, see the finery, and hear the gorgeous music.  That way I’d get to experience both worlds of the Middle Ages.  (But most of the time in the castle, please.)

When I was a kid in Scotland I spent as much time as I could exploring castle ruins – hiding in little niches, laughing at the primitive toilets, shivering at the thought of being locked in the dungeon, and imagining the sounds of horses or battles or bagpipes just outside the castle keep — one time a lone bagpiper actually did come out of the mist behind the castle!

I still love exploring castles and if you haven’t been to a Renaissance fair those are a lot of fun, too, but after a visit to the Middle Ages I have to say I’d like to come back to the world of aspirin, coffee and computers!

And Kathryn’s question for me…

Why do you think there’s such an interest in vampire novels among teens—and everyone?

And my answer…

The obvious answer would be because of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. But truth be told, vampire fiction has been popular off and on for years. It never really dies out (haha, very punny, I know). I think there are a lot of reasons for the ongoing popularity – there’s the whole desire for long life and the fear of death (heck, and aging), two (three) things kind of wrapped up into the myth of vampires.

And after Varney the Vampire and some of the other stories from around the same timeframe as Stoker’s Dracula, the vampire as the evil but sexy seductor who dresses well and has riches untold (and a killer accent) is a powerful pull. The modern day vampire myth has more to do with romance than it ever has before and we’re also now seeing stories where the vampires are not necessarily the bad guys. Way back when the myths started out, it wasn’t that way at all. Vampires were always evil and definitely not sexy. Goes to show you that myths can warp and change all the time.

That’s kind of a rambling kind of answer, but I’ll have to plead the flu. Or a cold. Not really sure what it is, but it sure does have my head all fogged up!

The Giveaway

Would you like to win a copy of Quaking? And assorted stickers, tattoos and other goodies?  Yes, you would. Trust me. All you have to do is visit Kathryn’s website and email me at kim @ kimberlypauley.com (remove the spaces!) with the subject line “That Writer-Lady-Dude” and tell me…after mousing over the pictures on her site, which baby/child photo of Kathryn did you like best?

Only one more day and one more awesome author and then the grand prize contest starts!!

Me on the Radio!

I had an interview today with Milwaukee Public Radio for their Lake Effect program. Not sure yet when it’s going to actually air, but I drove to downtown Milwaukee today to tape it :-) I think it went okay. I always feel like I sound like an idiot, but hopefully I don’t. :-P I’ll post again when I find out when it will air.

Book Launch Party: Day 8: Cecil Castelluci

All About Cecil
My guest today is the über-cool Cecil Castelluci. She’s one of the authors I would most like to hang out with in person (and, bummer, I’ve never gotten to…we were both doing signings at ALA at the Mirrorstone booth and I got to see her, but our schedules crossed so I never got to actually hang with her). She’s a writer and a director besides being a cool person with a really fun fashion sense (seriously, go look at the pictures on her website). She’s a founding member of the Alpha 60 film club and an indie rock musician and has even lived in Paris before. *Sigh* I feel so un-cool.

You can learn more about Cecil at her official website:  www.misscecil.com

All About Boy Proof
Meet Egg. Her real name is Victoria Jurgen, but she’s renamed herself after the kick-ass heroine of her favorite sci-fi movie, TERMINAL EARTH. Like her namesake, Egg dresses all in white, colors her eyebrows, and shaves her head. She always knows the right answers, she’s always in control, and she’s far too busy — taking photos for the school paper, meeting with the Science Fiction and Fantasy Club, and hanging out at the “creature shop” with her dad, the special-effects makeup wizard — to be bothered with friends, much less members of the opposite sex. As far as Egg is concerned, she’s boy proof, and she likes it that way. But then Egg meets a boy named Max, a boy who’s smart and funny and creative and cool . . . and happens to like Egg. Could this be the end of the world — at least as Egg knows it?

What happens when an antisocial cinephile meets up with the worldly new guy at school — a quick-witted artist who’s savvy enough to see through her sci-fi disguise?

The Q&A
Here’s my question for Cecil…

What movie do you wish you’d been involved in the production of (from any era)? Why?

And her answer…

Normally I would say Star Wars.  That would be my default answer.  But I think that it might have been really fun to work with Mabel Normand, Buster Keaton, Fatty Arbuckle,  Clara Bow and the other greats from the silent era.  Imagine, if you will, the excitement of being involved the creation of a new art form.  People were running around Hollywood and making movies and it seems as though it was very exciting.  So I’m going to say, while I would love to have been involved in Star Wars or any other number of other movies from a more modern era, I think that it would have been amazing to be involved in the Silent Era.

And Cecil’s question for me…

What is your absolutely favorite vampire a) movie b) TV show and c) book?

And my answer…

Hmmmmmmm. Yeesh, it’s so hard when people ask me my favorite anything. I have a hard time narrowing things down because it kind of depends upon what mood I’m in. So, let’s see…today I’d say…for movie…perhaps the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Kristy Swanson or Once Bitten, Twice Shy with Lauren Hutten. Can you tell I’m going for the funny here?

For TV Show…er, well…I can’t say that I’ve ever actually watched any vampire TV shows. I’ve never seen Buffy or Angel or whatever the name of the new one is with the guy with curly hair. I don’t think I’ve ever watched any vampire TV. I’ll keep thinking, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t. Wait – would The Addams Family or The Munsters count?

As for books…I like Cynthia’s Tantalize a lot. And I liked Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire when I was younger, though it has been so long since I read it that I can’t hardly remember what was in it. Other than that, it’s hard to say since I stopped reading vampire stuff once the publisher bought my book.

Geez, it’s a wonder I wrote a book featuring vampires, huh?

The Giveaway

Ready to meet Egg? All you’ve got to do to win a copy of Boy Proof is visit Cecil’s website and then email me at kim @ kimberlypauley.com with the subject line “Rock On, Miss Cecil!” and tell me…what is one of the names of her bands (any one of ‘em will do — one of the bands she’s been in)? Be sure to enter by September 9th!

And don’t forget to check out all the other posts about the other awesome authors I’m featuring during the Sucks to Be Me Book Launch Party!! And heck, tell your teacher or librarian about how I’m giving away an Author Visit (I’d love to meet you in person!)

Book Launch Party: Day 5: Lauren Mechling

All About Lauren

My guest today is Lauren Mechling, the ultra-fab co-author of the Social Climber series and the author of the brand new, super-awesome-fabutastic (seriously) Dream Girl. Lauren is a New York City kind of girl, which means she’d be way too cool to hang out with me if she weren’t so nice (I’m only kinda kidding about that…I am such a geek, even if I was born in California in the San Francisco area). She’s written for everything from New York Magazine to Jane (again, the ultra-coolness factor) and from the New York Sun to Marie-Claire.

You can learn more about Lauren at her official website: www.laurenmechling.com

The Latest: Dream Girl
Dream Girl is the first book in a series about Claire Voyante. She has been having strange visions ever since she can remember. But the similarity between her name and her talents is purely coincidental. The name is French, and unlike the psychics on TV, she can’t solve crimes or talk to the dead. Whenever Claire follows her hunches, she comes up empty – or ends up in pretty awkward situations. But that all changes on Claire’s 15th birthday, when her grandmother, Kiki-former socialite, fashion icon, and permanent fixture at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel – gives her something a little more extraordinary than one of her old cocktail dresses: a strange black-and-white onyx cameo on a gold chain. It’s not long before Claire’s world becomes a whole lot clearer. And a whole lot more dangerous.

The Q&A

Here’s my question for Lauren…

If you were a girl (or lady, if you want to be grown up about it) detective, what famous detective would you be most like (girl or guy detective is okay…after all, there haven’t been too many famous girl ones)?

And her answer…

First, thank you so much for that sweet introduction. I’m delighted to hear you liked Dream Girl and I can’t wait to sink my teeth (har har) into your new book.

Now, down to serious business. There are a lot of detectives who are near and dear to me. I love Tess Monaghan, the plucky heroine of Laura Lippman’s Baltimore series, and I think Hercule Poirot is a total hoot. But . . . my favorite is Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison of the magnificent BBC “Prime Suspect” series.

They made the first “Prime Suspect” in 1991 so I’ve watched Detective evolve from a young-ish hopeful thing into a steely pro who, after seventeen years of disappointment and injustice (why must her less talented male colleagues always be promoted over her?), remains unrelentingly good at what she does.

And Lauren’s question for me…

Help! Rumor has it there are some vampires on the loose in my neighborhood. I’ve stocked up on garlic but I’m still very afraid. In the event of a vampire bite, what would you advise?

And my answer…

Well, that depends. Do you wanna “live” forever? Join the ranks of the undead? Or do you want to stay…normal?

And it also depends upon which version of vampire-hood we’re talking about. :-) In “my” world (i.e. Mina’s), the garlic wouldn’t do you much good. And most conversions are done by ingesting vampire blood, which you probably didn’t do. While you *could* get converted by being bitten (it’s what happened to Mina’s dad), chances are you were just a snack and you’ll just have a sore neck and a heckuva story to tell your grandkids.

In some vampire myths, you have to be bitten three times before you get turned, so if you just lay low and don’t let your guard down, you’ll be just fine.

The Giveaway

Dream Girl sound as cool to you as it does to me? Well you’ve got a chance to win a copy right here! All you have to do is visit Lauren’s blog and check out what she was doing on the release date for her new book (hint: it was July 22nd) and then email me with the subject line “I’m Dreaming of Lauren!” at kim @ kimberlypauley.com and tell me what she was drinking. And then you should check out the rest of her blog; it’s a lot of fun. Get your entries in by September 6th!

And don’t forget to check out all the other stuff you can win during the Sucks to Be Me Book Launch Par-tay! :-)

Book Launch Party: Day 4: Tanya Lee Stone

All About Tanya Lee Stone
My guest today is the fantastic Tanya Lee Stone who wrote A Bad Boy Can Be Good for a Girl, a novel told in poems. She worked for years as an editor and also has a Masters Degree in Education (so she’d be one heckuva English teacher). She has written nearly 90 books, mostly for younger readers (like the new Elizabeth Leads the Way and the soon-to-be-new Sandy’s Circus, coming Sept 4th!). One really cool fact about her – Mandy Patinkin once personally showed her the Inigo Montoya swords from The Princess Bride! I’m so jealous! That’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

You can learn more about Tanya at her official website.

About A Bad Boy Can Be Good for a Girl
Josie, Nicolette, and Aviva are three very different girls who all meet the same bad boy with an irresistible knack for getting into their blood and under their skin. Will the choices they make and the paths they take lead them where they want to go?

It’s been compared to both Judy Blume’s Forever (which features in the book) and to the Vagina Monologues. Sound intriguing? It is.

The Q&A
Here’s my question for Tanya…

I’m dying to ask about Mandy Patinkin, but I’ll be good and ask a book-related question instead. I read your post about the best thing that can happen to a non-fiction writer over at I.N.K. (which was SO awesome, by the way) – so, as someone who also writes fiction, what would be the best thing that could happen to you related to that?

And her answer…

Well, there are two best things—and they’ve happened! The first, hands-down, are the readers who write to me. There’s no feeling in the world that compares to knowing that someone connected with something you wrote for them. And the trust that the teens show me who write in can’t be beat. Those emails make me tear up.

The second thing was meeting one of my heroes—Judy Blume. You could have mopped the floor with me when I found out we were going to meet for lunch. And the best part was—she was as absolutely cool as I had imagined she would be.

And Tanya’s question for me…

Okay, Kimberly—your turn! I have two questions for you. Where, oh where, did you get that fabuloso hat you’re sporting in your author pic? And, when oh when, do you find time to sleep? With all you do, you’re like the energizer bunny! Give the woman a Standing Ovation! (hands clapping wildly in cyber-space)

And my answer…

LOL, well, the hat I actually got at an art show. I wish I could remember the name of the lady I got it from; she made AWESOME hats. It was my Kentucky Derby hat (we lived in Louisville briefly). Isn’t it a cool hat? People should wear hats more. I’ve actually collected hats (mostly old) since I was a teenager. I don’t wear them too often though. Not enough opportunities.

As for sleep…lately, it’s catch as catch can! I’m behind on EVERYTHING since the baby was born (he’s 5 1/2 months old now and the cutest little peanut you can imagine). I can tell you, I sure don’t feel like the Energizer Bunny!

The Giveaway

So, If you haven’t read A Bad Boy Can Be Good for a Girl yet, now you’ve got the perfect chance. To win a copy, all you have to do is go visit Tanya’s site and then email me at kim @ kimberlypauley.com with the subject line “Go Tanya! Go Girls!” and tell me…why did Tanya don thigh-high rubber boots? (Hint: look on the Biography page). Remember to enter by September 5th!!

And don’t forget to check out the main Book Launch Contest Info post for all the details and links! Seriously. You want that monster prize pack. Trust me.

Book Launch Party: Day 2: Marlene Perez

All About Marlene
My guest today is the wonderfully friendly and probably sleep-deprived (she recently had twins!!!) Marlene Perez. Marlene has two awesome books debuting this year: Dead is the New Black (which you can win a copy of…keep reading!) in September and Love in the Corner Pocket (out this summer!). Marlene has also written as Lana Perez (middle grade books…super fun ones, too). She watches waaaayyy too much TV (or so she says) and lives in sunny Southern California. She’s also got a psychotic cat (like me)…I wonder, what percentage of authors do? It seems like a lot. Who needs a well-adjusted dog?

You can learn more about Marlene at her official website or her LiveJournal blog.

All About Dead is the New Black
Dead is the New Black sounds seriously intriguing. It’s told from the point of view of Daisy Giordano, one of a family of psychics who lives in Nightshade, California. Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can’t help but suspect head cheerlead Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” Samantha looks a little…well, dead, and all the popular kids at school are copying her style. Is looking dead just another fashion trend for pretty popular Samantha, or is there something more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad….

The Q&A

Here’s my question for Marlene…

You have soundtracks for each of your books on your website…so, if you had to do a soundtrack for your life, what would be on it (and I also love Etta James, by the way!)?

And her answer…

Oh, wow, this is a great question, but my answers would probably change on a daily basis. I have to admit that some of my favorite songs ended up in the DEAD IS books. Here’s what the soundtrack of my life would look like today (and I made myself limit it to a lucky thirteen songs.)

Taking Care of Business by Bachman Turner Overdrive (because anyone who went to high school with me knows that this is the song everyone did “The Alligator”—it’s a dance– to back in high school. Ask me to demonstrate it sometime.)

Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin (best.singer.ever.)

Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers (my FAV group in junior high, what can I say? I loved all that tartan and I’m a sucker for accents.)

We Close Our Eyes by Oingo Boingo (best song ever! Reminds me how short our time is.)

At Last by Etta James (Gorgeous song and it reminds me of my husband. But then again, so does any K.C. and the Sunshine Band song, so there you go.)

Goody Two Shoes by Adam & The Ants (Floppy pirate shirts. And war paint. And a rockin’ good beat.)

Fell in Love with a Boy by Joss Stone (I love her voice)

Love Removal Machine by The Cult (who doesn’t want to dance when this song comes on your I-Pod?)

If It Be Your Will by Leonard Cohen (Leonard Cohen is THE MAN, although the version by Antony is pretty awesome too.)

Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Avengers (I love this song because of the way the lyrics tell such a complete and relatable story.)

Every Day I Write the Book by Elvis Costello (kind of a reminder really.)

Bowie by Flight of the Conchords (this kills two birds with one stone because I love David Bowie and nothing makes me laugh more than the Flight of the Conchords, except maybe The Office.)

Any song from the Once More, with Feeling episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I’m a huge Buffy fan and probably scared the beejesus out of Joss Whedon on the exhibit floor of Comic-Con one year. I think Buffy informed the work of a lot of the paranormal fiction we’re seeing right now, especially in the vampire/werewolf category.)

And Marlene’s question for me…

How did you decide which vampire conventions to throw out and which to keep? For instance, in SUCKS TO BE YOU, Mina’s father loves garlic.

Or

What’s your favorite beverage? And no fair saying a pint of O negative.

And my answer…

Let’s see, I think I’ll just tackle both. :-) Last one first, since its easy…most of the time I just like a drink of really cold water (no ice). But I do *love* a nice cold glass of real lemonade (ooooh, or strawberry lemonade. yum!). Though I do partake in a nice glass of red wine periodically…(less so now with the baby…geez, I’m a cheap date now!).

As for the vampire conventions…well, I did a lot of research. Some of the ones that it may seem like I “threw out” in the book are actually “true” – in the sense that they follow the original legends and myths more so than they follow the common vampire mythos of today. Like the eye color being blue or green – that’s straight out of real vampire mythology. Some myths didn’t have a real basis in the legends, however, and for those I just went with what seemed funny to me or would work best for the “vampire vision” I had in my head. The garlic in particular…I couldn’t find anything in the ancient myths that really indicated that garlic would repel vampires, so I decided to go the opposite route to most vampire tales.

And BTW, Marlene, I *love* your song choices!

The Giveaway

Now then, the part I’m sure you’ve been waiting for…how to win that hot, hot, hot copy of Dead is the New Black…all you gotta do is go visit Marlene’s website and tell me which of the songs she posted in her soundtrack lists is your fav and why. Pretty easy, huh? Just email your answer to me at kim @ kimberlypauley.com with the subject line “When was black the new black, anyway?” by September 2nd, 2008.

And don’t forget to check out all the book launch par-tay details (including how to win an awesome HUGE prize pack of stuff)!

Book Launch Party!! Day 1: Cynthia Leitich Smith

All About Cynthia
My guest today is the awesome Cynthia Leitich Smith! Not only is she a fantabulous author (for kids and teens), she also runs an incredible website with all kinds of information about children’s and YA literature. As the founder of YA & Kid’s Books Central, I don’t say that lightly. If you’ve never checked out her site(s), you definitely should! And if that wasn’t enough, her husband Greg is also an author (love his books too – great fun…I wish I could have gone to the Peshtigo School!). AND – Cynthia has also written an awesome vampire book called Tantalize (which I loved).

You can learn more about Cynthia at her official website and her blog: Cynsations.

About Tantalize
Quincie Morris has never felt more alone. Her hybrid-werewolf first love threatens to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. And just as she and her uncle are about to debut Austin’s red hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef.

Can Quincie transform the new hire into a culinary dark lord before opening night? Will Henry Johnson be able to wow the crowd in fake fangs, a cheap cape, and red contact lenses? Or is there more to this earnest fresh face than meets the eye?

As human and preternatural forces clash, a deadly love triangle forms and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who’s playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything?

The Q&A
Here’s my question for Cynthia…

Tantalize is primarily a vampire book, but I love how you envisioned the were-people. Can you tell me a bit about how you came up with that?

And her answer…

As I was researching folk-tale and literary vampires, I kept an ongoing list of powers typically associated with them.

The ability to turn into a wolf was one of those powers, and from there, I thought it might be interesting to write a murder mystery in which the central question was whether a vampire in wolf form or a werewolf was the killer.

The glitch was that I’m a huge fan of real-life wolves. Really, I have both a photo of a wolf and a painting of a wolf (by Cherokee artist Donald Vaughn) hanging in my office. And I felt that, as a competing predator to humans, the wolf had already received enough bad PR without my piling more on.

But then I realized that my werewolves could be natural beings rather than demonic ones. I decided that they would be part of a competing line of humanity, one that could both trace its heritage to the Ice Age and interbreed with us. As natural beings, each would have the free will to choose the kind of “person” he or she wanted to be.

As long as there were Wolves, it only made sense that there would be other types of shapeshifters, especially because there are different shifter myths from all over the world (the werecat in Japan, for example).

So there’s some diversity—not only werwolves and Cats but also werearmadillos, wereoppossums, and were-turkey vultures, a selection largely inspired by the Central Texas setting and my affection for comedic relief. My next novel, Eternal (Candlewick, March 2009) also will feature two new kinds of shifters.

It’s been great fun researching the various animal forms—in books, videos, even visiting the Austin Nature Center—to craft the various types as resonant characters, grounded in both sides of their nature.

And Cynthia’s question for me…

In modern literary and film interpretations, the vampire arguably reigns as the sexiest of Gothic creatures. But if you had to pick a first runner-up between the other popular monsters—werewolves, ghosts, zombies, ghouls, faeries, etc.—which would you choose and why?

Oh geez, I think I’d have to say faeries. I’m a huge fan of faerie tales and myths and even studied it some in college. I’ve got a huge collection of books about them (including some really old and obscure ones) and can tell you all kinds of random things about the origins of the Cinderella myth (did you know there were Cinder-Lads?) and other stories. Besides, there are so many different kinds of faeries – there’s truly something for everyone whether you like the puckish little imps or the impossibly beautiful Faerie Queen (and talk about deadly – what’s scarier than the UnSeelie Court?).

I actually have a middle grade book that’s half finished that features faeries, but I stopped work on it when it seemed like a ton of new faery-related books were out (I was already discouraged from agents telling me that vampires were so over…of course, they turned out wrong, but hey). It’s kind of a Mistress Masham’s Repose & Coraline kind of thing (not that I dare compare myself to either T.H. White or Neil Gaiman!). I hope to get back to it someday since you could say those kinds of stories are some of my favorite.

Honestly…if someone had told me that my first book would be about vampires, I’d have probably laughed at them! Goes to show you never can tell.

And here’s an extra little tidbit that’s kind of related…in the first draft of Sucks to Be Me, the author lady that Uncle Mortie takes Mina to visit was originally a werewolf. But I ultimately decided that I didn’t want to get into a whole other set of myths for such a bit part so she just became a regular, non-furry weirdo instead.

The Giveaway
Not only can you win a copy of Tantalize, but you can also win an official Sanguini’s t-shirt! Woot! All you have to do is visit Cynthia’s website (which is awesome) and then email me at kim @ kimberlypauley.com with the subject line “Cyn is a Sensation!” and tell me…which of the Tantalize discussion questions in the Reader’s Guide do you find more discussion provoking? It is an online book launch Par-Tay! And you are invited!

I’m very, very pleased (as punch, as a matter of fact) to announce that the online book launch party for Sucks to Be Me is officially on and scheduled for August 26th to September 10th. Stop by www.kimberlypauley.com/blog every day between August 26th to September 10th to meet some cool authors and win some cool prizes and get entered for one whopping big prize pack of stuff from my publisher.

My special guests will include: Lauren Myracle, Cynthia Leitich-Smith, Marlene Perez, Tanya Lee Stone, Lauren Mechling, Alan Gratz, Alyson Noel, Cecil Castelluci, Kristin Tubb, Tiffany Trent, Lara M. Zeises/Lola Douglas, Elenora Sabin, Debra Garfinkle, Dan Ehrenhaft, Kathy Erskine, and Niki Burnham (in other words, some really awesome, incredibly cool, very lovely authors).

So be sure to stop by…and please feel free to tell all your friends (or use the graphic above to link the site…heck, I’ll even make you a custom-sized graphic if you want one). Come one, come all!

Update: Here’s the code for a slightly skinnier version of this graphic (it’s the one on the homepage) Please feel free to use it! :-) :

Interview with Susan Raab up…hear how silly I sound :-)

While I was at ALA I had an interview with Susan Raab of Raab Associates. She recorded it, and listening to it now I am reminded of how silly I sound sometimes :-) Okay, not all the time, but definitely some of the time. :-) Check it out (it’s an MP3 file linked from this UConn site: http://www.tne.uconn.edu/RECESSInterviews.htm#pauley)

And, btw, Susan is awesome.
